There are so many quirks you can credit as New York City exclusives after being here for a while. Some are monetary (food prices as high as the surrounding skyscrapers) while others are anything but subtle (vocal sob stories from fellow MTA passengers, or subway station musicians). But the fleeting moments that occur each day are the things that make me smile.
The photo above is one of my favorite parts of New York City: the typography. Whether it's in graffiti or a street sign, a billboard or in the subway, the graphic nature of New York City imagery incorporates such a range of typography that I'm constantly engaged. More type to come. After all, that is the name of the blog...
Here are few moments from the past few weeks, some older and some newer.
The saddest bus stop ad I've ever seen.
Prime example of New York food prices. Makes me want some crab salad.
Anthony and me in Central Park.
The most significant occurrence in the past week is my recent job offer. No, I'm not kidding. A (permalance) job at a national magazine. I am still in disbelief at the fact that so few graduates from my program have landed a job (a.k.a. not an internship) with a NATIONAL publication, let alone the ASME 2010 Magazine of the Year. We'll see how I fair in a web job.
And the funniest occurrence: 1 a.m. karaoke by Miss Marina Shifrin at Second on Second. One more item crossed off her bucket list, and many, many laughs, mostly at the perfection that unfolded. Shoop by Salt 'N Pepa should definitely be on more karaoke lists... Documentation of the event:
And when the song became a duet.
What are the chances of finding someone else
in that bar who knows the lyrics to Shoop?
More when I have interesting things to share.
